Code of Practice

All members of The Sunbed Association (TSA) undertake to comply with The Sunbed Code and must demonstrate compliance through inspection visits to their premises.

The Sunbed Code requires that the establishment will maintain all prescribed performance and safety levels.

Sunbed appliances must meet European Standards and be installed and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the guidance as set out in The Sunbed Code.

Appropriately trained staff must be on duty at all times when the premises are open to the public.

Information shall be given to customers on the contra-indications, responsible use and risks associated with excessive and over-exposure. The duration and frequency of sunbed sessions must be controlled.

Protective goggles must be provided. 

SUNBED USE BY UNDER 18s

SCOTLAND - Law effective from 1 December 2009. It is illegal to allow anyone under 18 to use, purchase or hire a sunbed.

ENGLAND AND WALES - Law came into force April 2011. The law was passed by parliament on 8 April 2010 which will make it illegal to allow anyone under 18 to use a sunbed.
